The 2010 reunion was my first.  It definately will not be my last.  I saw old friends and made new ones.  We are a great family!

I'll see everyone in Jacksonville in 2012

This July...the second...they let me out a few days early because they were going to New York for the Fourth of July...marks exactly thirty years since my EAOS. Last Jan was thirty-five since I showed my teenage face at RTC Orlando. Dang, that's a residential development, now...and the shore duty staion in Puerto Rico was shut down and handed back over to the locals...I think I'm starting to get a complex...they're trying to erase all proof that I was ever IN the Navy! Now I know how that Bourne fella felt...

Just wanted to say howdy...I came aboard the CVR during the looong overhaul in Philly, back in 1977-1978. I was in OE division...stayed aboard till I hit my EAOS in early July 1980. Did the yards thingy, the homeport shift back to NORVA, DCREFTRA in GTMO, a few ops off the VACAPES, and the major Mideast/Med cruise with the Iranian hostage crisis. We were the Engineering School ship in Newport RI when I hit EAOS, and I said goodbye there...kinda sad to find out later that the old girl was cut up and gone. Never thought I'd see the day when I'd get nostalgic for those days, but it happened pretty quickly, really....now I gotta sign off...I'm gettin' a little misty...

Greetings Shipmates,

If you are planning on attending the 2010 Reunion in Norfolk coming up soon, get your reservation form into Jerry Edwards by April 1 to be eligible for a drawing for $200 or $100.  Also, if you're planning on staying at the Lake Wright Hotel where the Reunion is being held, you need to make sure you have your reservations made there by April 1 to get the DDG-5 Reunion discount.  See the 2010 Reunion page on The Big Nickel website for more information.

Hope to see you there,
  Kirk "VJ" Neuman

Here, Here..!

Let's not let those days fade to grey ~ in my heart the DDG-5 still proudly breaks the waves. Once we clear the VaCapes, where ever the skipper wants to go is fine with me.
